Strong Start Pushes Reynolds to National Championship Meet
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Entering the meet with the 23rd fastest time in the region, Oral Roberts’ Madison Reynolds knew she had her work cut out for her to qualify for the national championships, but the sophomore was up to the challenge and set a new personal best on Friday at the NCAA West Preliminary.
Reynolds ran 53.02, three tenths of a second better than her previous record but still appeared on the edge of heartbreak. With the top three in each heat automatically qualifying for the next round, Reynolds found herself in fourth in the heat by 0.003 seconds and would have to wait to see if her time was fast enough to earn one of three at-large bids. She grabbed the second spot and finished 10th overall to advance out of the region.
Reynolds, who was one of just four underclassmen to advance, will now represent Oral Roberts University at the NCAA National Championship in Eugene, Ore., June 11-14.
