Reynolds Advances; Estala Comes up Short at NCAA West Preliminary
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Madison Reynolds and Justin Estala both represented Oral Roberts University well on Thursday as the duo competed in the NCAA West Preliminary Meet, hosted by the University of Arkansas. Going against the best that the west region has to offer, Reynolds qualified for the quarterfinals in the 400m dash, while Estala’s season came to an end with a 27th place finish in the pole vault competition.
With the top three in each heat automatically advancing, Reynolds took advantage of the safety net and took third in her heat with a time of 53.47 with a slight mist coming down. The sophomore finished just back of Kendall Baisden (52.45) of Texas and Arkansas’ Chrishuna Williams (53.05). Her time put her 20th overall out of the 24 qualifiers for the next round.
Down to his final attempt at 16-9.25 (5.11m), Estala sailed over the bar and advanced to his next round. Again, the freshman found himself needing a clutch vault on his final attempt, one that was postponed momentarily due to a storm that blew into the area. Estala was the first one back on the runway after the delay and was unable to clear 17-3, ending his season in 27th place out of more than 45 competitors.
