TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts University baseball team closes its regular season with a three-game Southland Conference series beginning on Thursday as the Golden Eagles host Lamar at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

First pitch for games one and two on Thursday and Friday are set for 6:30 p.m., with the regular season finale starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Nine seniors will be honored following Saturday’s contest, including Austen Colt, Tyler Boss, Kurt Giller, Gavin Glanz, Pepe Gomez, Brandon Healy, Wesley Leander, Graham McIntyre and Joey Migliaccio.

Both ORU (29-24) and Lamar (29-22) enter the weekend in a three-way tie with Central Arkansas for seventh place in the SLC standings with a 14-13 conference record. The winner of the series will qualify for the Southland Conference Tournament next week in Conway, Ark.

The top eight teams in the league standings will reach the tournament. Sam Houston State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Northwestern State, Nicholls and McNeese State each clinched spots in the tournament during last weekend’s conference games, with Southeastern Louisiana in the mix as well for the regular season conference championship.

Pepe Gomez (8-3) is projected to start Friday’s contest on the mound for the Golden Eagles. Gomez leads the ORU starters with a 2.90 earned run average, and hasn’t lost a game in his previous nine starts on the bump. He is currently tied for the second most wins in the conference.

With three hits in an 8-3 loss at Oklahoma State on Tuesday, Jose Trevino moved his season average to .307 at the plate. He is tied with Tyler Boss with a team high 67 hits on the year.

The Cardinals, picked to finish second in the Southland in the preseason polls, have lost their previous two conference series against Houston Baptist and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Despite their struggles the past two weeks, the Cardinals are second in the conference with a .292 team average, and lead the league with 519 total hits.

A preseason All-Southland First Team selection, LU shortstop Sam Bumpers has lived up to the honor against the league opponents with a .457 mark, while slugging a conference high .716. Bumpers boasts a .356 overall average in 2014 with 13 doubles, four triples and five home runs.

Live stats and live audio/video will be available for all three contests on and locally over the air on AM 1550 and 94.5 FM with Geoff Haxton bringing the play-by-play.
