Pitching leads ORU to series victory with 4-2 win at UCA
ORU sits alone in eighth place in the conference with the victory over the Bears as the Golden Eagles moved their record to 25-22 overall and 12-12 in the league. UCA moves into ninth place at 11-13 in the conference and 23-21 overall.
Gomez (7-3) battled through seven innings, striking out five and allowing two runs on seven hits for his seventh victory of the season. McDavid took over in the eighth and held the Bears hitless, striking out two, to pick up his first Division I save.
Austen Colt had a nice day at the plate with a pair of RBI singles, while Tyler Boss reached twice, including a double, and scored two runs. Matt Brandy finished with a double, a single, drove in one run and scored one run.
Leading the Bears at the plate was Doug Votolato with a pair of hits, and Brandon Montalvo hit a solo home run in the third. Connor Gilmore took the loss in the start on the mound as he went six innings and allowed three runs.
The Golden Eagles continued their trend of scoring first as Austen Colt singled to center to drive in Audie Afenir to put ORU up 1-0 after two innings. ORU scored first in all three games of the series.
In the top of the third, with Domenico standing on first following a walk, Boss hit a gap shot to right center for a double, but Domenico was gunned down at home on the play. Two batters later, Sequeira singled up the middle to plate Boss to extend the ORU lead to 2-0.
The Bears answered in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs, including a leadoff home run by Doug Votolato. Later in the inning, Chris Townsend tripled down the right field line and scored as Nate Ferrell singled to left to tie the game at two.
Brandy regained the lead for the Golden Eagles in the fifth with a double into the left field corner to plate Boss from second to make it a 3-2 game. Three innings later, Colt struck again with Brandy standing on third, singling up the middle to bring home the run and make it 4-2 Golden Eagles.
ORU continues its five game road trip with two midweek games as the Golden Eagles head to Missouri State on Tuesday for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch, followed by a date at UALR at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
